While in the following month New Yorkers will experience a wealth of design events, exhibitions, and fairs, there is one event in particular to which I am waiting with a great anticipation. At the upcoming Collective Design Fair, which will open next month, Maison Gerard Gallery will showcase the new work by Tel-Aviv-based artist Ayala Serfaty, which includes of a light installation inspired by the blooming of the wisteria (above), along with new chairs in the series Rapa which Serfaty crafts of hand-made felt. The new work is sensual, surprising, fresh, and intriguing. This show will coincide with another landmark event for her, which is the acquisition of a major lighting sculpture by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where one this country’s best and most extensive collection of contemporary design is being formed. It started under the direction of legendary curator Craig Miller and now under the guidance of Associated Curator James Zemaitis. Congratulating Ayala Serfaty.
