In its upcoming Nordic Design, Phillips London presents an example of Finn Juhl's Chieftain Armchair, designed in 1949, and made of teak. Only 99 examples of this icon were produced at the time by the cabinetmaker Niels Vodderm, all underside branded and impressed with NIELS VODDER CABINETMAKER/COPENHAGEN DENMARK. This model, estimated at £150,000 - 250,000,
was exhibited at the 'Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild', Kunstindustrimuseet, Copenhagen, 30 September–16 October 1949, during which King Frederick IX sat in the chair, causing a journalist to suggest calling it the “King’s Chair.” Today, it is licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™, and is Made in Denmark. In the US, it is sold through DWR.
