I was honored when curator Craig Miller agreed to participate in my film on collecting Frank Lloyd Wright, as Craig, the legendary design curator put the foundation of the collection of Wright at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.in the 70s and early 80s, consisting of furniture, ceramics, glass, textiles and architectural fragments dating from the 1890s through the 1950s, the most comprehensive collection. The first object by Wright acquired by the Met, before Miller joined the Museum, is triptych of windows created for the Avery Coonley Playhouse in Riverside, Illinois in 1912 (in the image above). It was acquired in 1967 with funds provided by the Edgar J. Kaufmann Foundation, and it followed a year later with an acquisition of a pair of side chairs from the Imperial Hotelin Tokyo (the image on the bottom).
