Design Miami/Basel 2013 marks a special strength in vintage, 20th century design. Jacksons gallery together with architect Lee Mindel present a reconstruction of a patient’s room at the Paimio Sanatorium, one of the more iconic buildings that Alvar Aalto designed in Paimio, Finland in 1933. On display are the original bed and bedside table, washbasin, lamps, spittoon, and door, all of which had been in place at the Sanatorium until the 1960s.
Sebastian + Barquet Gallery shows the work of George Nakashima, presented in a booth that is decorated to suggest the home/studio of the Japanese-American architect/woodworker in New Hope, Pennsylvania. And the Parisian gallery Jousse Entreprise presents rare pieces by mid-century French designer Pierre Paulin
