Here are a couple of interior schemes by Jean Royère which I love. The self-taught decorator, whose furniture fetched astronomical numbers in auctions, began his career as a decorator in 1931 working for Pierre Gouffé. The postwar years had marked the height of his career, when Royère developed an innovative, fresh, and liberal style, where sinuous forms were expressed in whimsical and young modes. His signature style attracted not only French, but also international clients in the Near-East and in South and Latin America. King Farouk of Egypt, King Hussein of Jordan, and the Shah of Iran, all commissioned Royère with important projects.
