So enjoyed visiting the show ‘Yves Saint Laurent + Halston: Fashioning the ’70s’ this morning at the Museum at FIT. While exploring the creative years of the two most celebrated fashion creators of the era, giants who defined the glamorous 1970s in France and in the US, the exhibition, all from the holdings of the permanent collection (some are gifts from such tastemakers as Lauren Bacall, Marina Schiano, Aimée de Heeren, Mary Russell, and Tina Chow) juxtaposes the two in an analytical and scholarly manner. It is divided into themes that had crucial role in the aesthetics of the two, such as men’s fashion, history, and exotic cultured. I am a fan of Halston, who to me, captures the essence of everything I love about American fashion, which has a key presence in my own closet. The exhibition space is designed in the theme of Space Age, clad with white background which highlights the stylish pieces that tell the story of the glamour 70s.
