A special version of the "Z" desk by Gabriella Crespi, which has a drawer unit in brass-covered wood was sold yesterday at Phillips for $194K. Produced by Gabriella Crespi's BREV, and singed with the applied artist's logo, this result is a testimony of the growing interest in the furniture that the Italian artist created in the 70s. Crespi, a designer, sculptor, artist, and glamorous socialite designed furniture of space-age aesthetics in the 70s, and among her clients were Elizabeth Arden, Thomas Hoving, Princess Grace, Gunther Sachs, and the Shah of Iran. There has been an increasing interest in her work in recent years, and particularly in those pieces made in wood covered in brass and stainless steel, with the "Z" Desk among the most sought-after forms. The example offered by Phillips has an extra drawer unit which entails the desk with a grand appearance. The regular version of the "Z" Desk was sold at Phillips London in the spring for £158,500; two years earlier, that same form fetched £37,250.
