Philippe Malouin, Designer of the Year

Congratulating Montreal-born London-based designer Philippe Malouin, recipient of the prestigious Designer of the Year Award by Wallpaper Magazine, whose concrete pavilion presented by Salon 94 Design at Design Miami/ I adored (below). The pavilion, which was discussed by Paul Johnson in my program Collecting Design in the fall, was created for the Superbenches project, an initiative that aims to regenerate a park in Järfälla, Sweden. Minimalist Malouin has created tubular lighting for Matter Made; marble installation for Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art; Gridlock series of furniture for Next Level Galerie; furniture for SCP; all demonstrate remarkable aesthetic sensibility, where material and forms support each other in the most complementary way. Above: Table for Next Level Galerie.
