Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) is considered one of the greatest French furniture design of the 20th century.
In 1958, he joined the design office of Dutch firm Artifort, and changed history. It was with his designs for Artifort in the 1960's that he became internationally renowned as the first to introduce curves into upholstered seating and to completely conceal the structures. His seating for Artifort were made of structured covered in foam, with a flexible, elastic jersey cover. Among the more important designs are: the 1966 Ribbon Chair; and the Mushroom Chair.
