It all started twenty years ago with a dream of one visionary woman, Susan Weber, a dream of a special academic institution devoted to research, study, and exhibition of the decorative arts and design. She sought to have a research library, school, and a museum, all under one roof. This was how the Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture was founded. I began my studies towards the Ph.D. degree in this unique and inspiring institution in 1999. And this evening, I attended the celebration of the 20th anniversary of my alma matter, that trains design historians, curators, writers, and scholars.
