This is what I call an entertaining night, full of laugh, interesting conversation, and great people and colleagues. Last night, I attended an event called “Stories from a Classic, with Hilda Longinotti” at the NYC Chapter of the AIA. George Nelson’s longtime aide-de-camp and the head of the Herman Miller showroom, Longinotti, 83, was the girl once
photographed on Nelson’s iconic Marshmallow Sofa. Charismatic and full of energy, she recounted some of the greatest and funniest anecdotes from her 21-year run at the legendary New York City design atelier, including collaborations with such legends as Andy Warhol and Ettore Sottsass. Joining the office in 1953 as a receptionist, Longinotti tells the stories behind the world of American postwar design.
