With the increasing interest in collectible contemporary design, Sotheby’s London will be presenting a retrospective selling exhibition devoted to the work Dutch designer Tord Boontje and his wife Emma Woffenden, both known for their individualistic voices. Boontje has made his name with crafted-driven design in language, which, while rooted in 19th-century historicism, has always been unexpected and fresh. Nostalgia, revival of ancient techniques, and the use of traditional materials have largely defined his work. Woffenden is a glass artist and sculptor, and the two have collaborated on a series of recycled bottles titled Transglass. Boontje’s Fig Leaf cabinet, which was crafted in enamel and bronze is particularly memorable, produce by Mallett, and was initially offered for $1mm.
