My trip to Marfa, West Texas. It has been one week since I am back to NYC and I am still captured by its allure. The title of a 60 Minutes episode aired in April, where Morley Safer travels to Marfa in search of this remote town’s cultural commodities, was “Marfa, Texas: The Capital of Quirkiness.” What a perfect title. You drive in the desert, and about four hours from El Paso, here it is.
You arrive to Marfa, where cutting edge artists, sophisticated restaurants, mitigated Art Deco buildings, and one of the most fantastic book stores I have ever seen, are integrated into the Tex-Mex scene. In Hotel Paisano you learn that this is where Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, and Rock Hudson were accommodated in 1955, when filming the memorable movie Giant. Here are a couple of fantastic images taken by my colleague Adriana Kertzer, who went to Marfa for Design Build Adventure Camp.
