Gallery Libby Sellers is a true ambitious gallery which provides a platform for those thinking outside of the box. Its commitment to contemporary design has resulted in discovering new talents of remarkable achievements. Materiality and crafts have informed the program of the gallery, which shows design that is conceptual and surprising. Its new group show entitled Troisième, presents objects in metal, minerals, and monochrome by the gallery’s artist, including Fabien Cappello, Formafantasma, Simon Hasan, Hunting & Narud, Julia Lohmann + Gero Grundmann, Peter Marigold, and Nicolas Le Moigne. I love the new collection, called De Natura Fossilium by the Italian duo Studio Forma, which is produced from lava saw. This piece below combines illustrative references to the Greek mythological god of Mount Etna and the microscopic views of lavic rock’s geological strata as ascertained through the designers’ collaboration with the Volcanologist Centre ofCatania . As a sustainable alternative to carbon fibre, Formafantasma’s use of lavic fibre has effectively reappropriated a conventionally high tech material for artisnal ends.
