It is only when viewing Donald Judd’s project in Marfa, TX, that I could fully comprehend the essence of his art in particular and that of the Minimalism vision in general. I advise anyone who loves art, aesthetics, and culture to make this pilgrimage to the small town in the middle of nowhere. To the radical Judd, the only way to display his non-representational sculpture and furniture was in a permanent installation, and this is why he came to Marfa. Here, he created an art planet, a powerful fantasy, set in many different buildings, some vintage, and others built by him. In Marfa, Donald Judd created gesamskunstwerk (total work of art), where architecture, furniture, design, and art, all merge into a spiritual experience.
