Last year, the Noguchi Museum inaugurated the Annual Isamu Noguchi Award (Norman Foster and Hiroshi Sugimoto received the inaugural Award). The recipients of this year’s Award are designer Jasper Morrison and architect Yoshio Taniguchi, so I would like to congratulate London-based Morrison and his gallery Kreo for this remarkable achievement. One of the world’s most influential industrial designers, Morrison’s famed personal vocabulary, rooted in minimalist aesthetic sensibility and in his aim to making a better world, has become an integral part of the design culture in our era. The objects he designed for Kreo, whether in Italian marble, wood, or paper are so precise, striking, and meticulous, that they fit in any environment on the one hand, but also hold poetic power on the other.
