Affordable Housing in Via 57

When you drive east 57th Street from the West Side Highway, you can see it. A futuristic, triangular, metallic low-rise building encircling a courtyard, that spans the entire block, and looks as if it came from a utopian drawing of a German Expressionist visionary in the 20s, a high-tech pyramid. Via 57 West is a residential complex, designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and his firm BIG, changing the skyline of the West Side of Manhattan, with an unusual forms that allows as many units to have a direct view to the Hudson River. What is spectacular about this new building beside the architecture, is that it comes to supply affordable homes. The deadline for applicants through NY Housing Connect is set for October 11th. Photography is by Iwan Baan and Danica O. Kus.
