I had the most inspiring morning, visiting the new solo exhibition of Dutch designer Aldo Bakker at Les Ateliers Courbet. What a great way to kick-off of my fall programs. Bakker's work is the ultimate manifestation of Minimalism. It is refined, sophisticated, smart, defined, combining brilliant design and innovative, sensual forms, with an exquisite craftsmanship. No ornament, no ornament, no excess, no texture, no color. He is the Brancusi of the design world. Guided through the show by Bakker was a particularly rewarding experience for my group because he illuminated not only the process of thinking, planning, designing behind all the pieces on the show, but also the complexity of production. I look at this guided tour as providing another layer of refining taste and understanding design. Thank you, Aldo Bakker for allowing us to experience the show through your eyes and in the most rewarding way. All images courtesy Les Atelier Courbet.
