Last year I have founded a program called Collecting Design: History, Collections, Highlights, taken place at the NY School of Interior Design. The program, the only one of its kind, comes to explore, define, and communicate the collectible design market. In each of the 10 sessions, I host an experts and together examining one topic, including French Art Deco, American mid-century design, and more. The session this morning focused on colleting contemporary design, with guest speaker
Carole Hochman, Director of Barry Friedman Ltd. Carole highlighted issues of collecting and focused on two designers represented by the gallery. The first is Wendell Castle whose contemporary work has been represented and co-produced by Barry Friedman Lts. I particularly love the recent collection, which came to mark the 80th birthday of one of the more dynamic and important figures of the American Studio Movement, and which was exhibited at the gallery in November of 2012, as it brings new life to the most important work Castle did in the 60s and 70s.
