Loved visiting two NYC previews of design sales by the Chicago-based auction house WRIGHT. The Design Masterworks sale includes of only twenty lots, but all of them are of super important and rare iconic objects by seminal artists and designers, active during the 20th century. Among the highlights of this sale are a Conoid room divider with “asa-no-ha” doors, which George Nakashima created to one of his most important commissions for the offices of the International Paper Company in New York in 1980. With this public commission, Nakashima was able to create some enormous pieces such as this divider; a unique light fixture handmade by Alexander Calder; Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic bow-tie urn; and the Nocturne radio with mirrored-glass by Walter Dorwin Teague, of which one example is in the collection of MoMA.
