I had the most fascinating evening at Sotheby’s last night. It began with a reception in celebration of the upcoming sale of the private collection of Félix Marcilhac in Paris in March. A couple of highlights were brought to NY for this occasion. Since opening his Parisian gallery in 1969, Marcilhac has been considered one of the world’s foremost dealers in French 20th-century decorative arts. Among his clients are Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Andy Warhol, and Catherine Deneuve. Now, as he is passing the business to the next generation, he will offer his own personal collection for sale. And it is comprised of museum-quality works from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods. The images showing some pieces in his own home gives a glimpse to his sophisticated taste. I am sure I will write more about this sale in the next couple of months.
