Sotheby's will be holding it traditional Important Tiffany sale with a selection of the firm’s celebrated leaded glass lighting, favrile glass and bronze fancy goods. The two main highlights of the season include a rare "Bat" table lamp, crafted in 1905, with mosaic glass base embellished with bats. It came from the prolific collection of the Louis C. Tiffany Garden Museum, Japan, which I wrote about here last summer. It depicts nocturnal bats flying against a azure blue sky dotted with stars. The other highlight is certainly a piano which Tiffany himself designed for his own studio at his father's residence on Madison Avenue and 72nd Street. It exemplifies Tiffany's fascination with Islamic art, which came to inform the early part of his career as a designer.
