Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1959, Maison Louis Carré in Bazoches-sur-Guyonnes has been designated an important historic building since 1996, and is operated by the Association Alvar Aalto en France. The client, Louis Carré, a prominent French art dealer who was also nterested in modern architecture, sought for a house to accommodate his guests and to act as a showcase of his art collection when commissioning Aalto to design this icon in 1956. Aalto created a complete work of art, where buildings, garden, furniture, and interior design are all integrated. Much of the furniture and light fixtures in the house were specifically designed for this building.
