He is one of handful designers honored by the always prestigious Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. Headline after headline, endless projects, editorials, books, documentaries, global lifestyle, Marc Newson is perhaps the world’s most famous and influential industrial designer. His witty, sleek, futuristic objects have been part of museum collections worldwide for decades; he was appointed the Royal Designer for Industry in the UK; received an honorary doctorate from Sydney University; and created CBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, to name just a few of his accomplishments. At the end of this month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art will honor Newson with its 2013 Design Excellence Award and with a retrospective “Marc Newson: at Home. He will also team with Jony Ive in curating, collecting, and creating new designs for a charity auction to benefit RED, the organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to raising both awareness and funds fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
