Congratulating Moderne Gallery, one of my favorite American design galleries, and its founder Bob Aibel for opening a new location at the New York Design Center, also known as the 200 Lexington Avenue Design Center. Based in Philadelphia, Moderene has established itself as the world’s leading gallery for American Studio Furniture, recently expanding into the contemporary studio furniture market under the leadership of Aibel and his son Josh. Next week, the gallery will open a show on Wharton Esherick, the Father of the America Studio Movement. Based in Paoli, Pennsylvania, Esherick crafted some of the most magical furniture created in this country before WWII and has been credited for disseminating the handcrafted furniture in the American canon.
