So enjoyed visiting the Israel Architecture Archives in Tel Aviv this morning, and meeting its founder, architect Dr. Zvi Elhyani. It takes only one passionate, patient, and ambitious man to create a project on this scale, and to make it grow and developed; this man is Mr. Elhyani, whose passion for the history of Israeli architecture and vast knowledge in preservation of archival materials have fueled the birth of the Archive. I was stunned by the wealth of material, which covers the pre-state period as well (pre-1948), consisting of the archives of some of the leading figures in the story of Israeli architecture, architects, scholars, interior designers. I was surprised to discover photographs of Israeli interior, which has been the subject of my recent publication in the Journal of Interior Design, examining the ‘designed’ home and its material culture during the 1960s and 1970s.
