Italian fashion houses are taking active roles in restoring some of Rome's most iconic monuments. When I read the Bulgari responded to the Italian government’s appeal to restore the Spanish Steps in Rome with a gift of €1.5m to finance the project, which is due to start in 2015, I was moved. This gesture comes to coincide with 130th anniversary of the jewelry house. Additionally, Diego Della Valle, the owner of Tod’s is giving €25m to the Colosseum, where work began last December and Fendi is backing a €2.1m restoration of the Trevi fountain.
