One of the most anticipating presentations in the upcoming New York Ceramics and Glass Fair, which will open in New York next week, is definitely the installation by Steve Tobin, presented by ILIAD Gallery. One of the leading figures in the territory of contemporary studio ceramics and glass, Tobin ‘s work demonstrates a fascination with biological structures and cosmic processes. He is particularly known for the ‘Trinity Root,’ a 9/11 memorial bronze sculpture at the Trinity church in lower Manhattan, which was cast of the stump and roots of the sycamore tree which grew in the churchyard of St. Paul's Chapel, and which has since become a symbol of sacrifice after 9/11, when it was broken by the blast from the collapsing towers and helped to shield the church from damage. In the upcoming Fair, ILIAD will be presenting selections from his Tobin's Exploded Earth (film below), Bang-pots, Cocoons, and some of his sublime cast glass "Doors" (above).
