If you want to learn about collectible ceramics and the passion and connoisseurship attached to it, there is no better place to experience, discover, and gain understanding than at the Madison-Avenue-based Jason Jacques Gallery. Not only because Jacques has pioneered the field, generated scholarship, exhibitions. and publications, but also because he has developed the eye, taste, and the expertise necessary to tell a great achievement in the medium of ceramics. In my quest to bring this medium, which has enjoyed a tremendous revival in recent years to the program Collecting Design: History, Collections, Highlights, I have taken the class this morning to what I consider the temple of the art of ceramics. There, we learnt from the true experts. Jacques and the gallery’s Director, decorative arts expert and curator Jason T. Busch have spoken about the historical figures, Georges Hoentschel, Edmond Lachenal, and Clement Massier, and about those who make the history of ceramics today. The Gallery has provided a platform for contemporary artists like Kim Simonsson, Beth Cavener, and Aneta Regel, who push the boundaries of the ancient medium, who insert poetic, biographical, and other contents, and who bring the art of ceramics to the forefront of the 21st century. Thank you Jason Jacques and Jason T. Busch for a rare experience, and for allowing us to taste the energy and creativity of great, ambitious ceramics.
